Melbourne’s History of The Ashes Cricket Tour

Tour the iconic MCG, explore the MCC museum and learn the story of 'The Ashes' urn origins. The tour includes lunch with drink plus a post-tour drink.
The first stop on this action filled day is a behind-the-scenes tour of the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground, home of the Boxing Day test.
The MCG is Australia's most significant sports stadium, dating back to 1853 and is regularly used for domestic and international Cricket and Australian Rules Football as well as one-off events such as the 1956 Olympics and the 2006 Commonwealth Games,. Highlights of the tour include (all subject to availability): The Olympic Stand, Coaches box, Media Centre, players change rooms (football and cricket), Cricket viewing room and exclusive Member's areas including the Long Room, Bill Lawry Cricket Centre and The Ponsford Stand. The tour also includes Aerial views and a walk on the hallowed turf.
Following your MCG tour, you will have time to explore the Melbourne Cricket Club's extensive cricket museum full of memorabilia collected over the club's nearly 200 year history. For those that prefer a small break from cricket, you can opt to explore the immersive and interactive Australian Sports Museum. The Australian Sports Museum isn’t your typical museum. It’s an exciting, interactive and ever-changing experience where the latest technology has been used to create immersive exhibits and galleries. It’s a place to explore, discover and play. This is no ordinary museum!
A delicious lunch is our next step where you'll have a choice of cafe-style options to enjoy with a drink.
We'll then bowl on up the highway to the town which claims to be the Birthplace of The Ashes. We'll explore the town and visit the cricket field where the first English cricket team who toured Australia played. Throughout we will unravel the story of how a tiny terracotta urn became one of cricket's most sought-after prizes.
Finally, we will cap off the day with a well-earned beer (or your favourite tipple) in the beloved Cricketers Bar at Melbourne's stunning Hotel Windsor. This bar is a favourite pre-match drinking-hole for Melburnians on their way to The 'G' and is also home to more of the Melbourne Cricket Club's cricket memorabilia.
This tour will depart from Federation Square at 9:30am and returns at 5:45pm (unless you decide to stay on the Cricketers Bar). City Centre, Docklands and Southbank pick-ups and drop-offs are also available on request, but will occur either side of the times listed above. Please advise us when making your booking if you would like to be met at your hotel instead of Federation Square.
